Fire bans are issued to restrict burning for the safety of residents and the community. Depending on weather and environmental conditions, the County may issue a Fire Advisory, Restriction or Ban. You can view fire bans throughout Alberta on the Alberta Fire Bans Website.
Fire Advisory: A Fire Advisory is issued when the fire danger rating has increased. While there are no restrictions in place during an advisory, residents should still be extremely careful with fire use.
Fire Restrictions (Partial Fire Ban): Fire Restrictions limit most fires. Outdoor fires that do not require a fire permit, such as recreational fires, burning barrel fires, and residential incinerator fires are allowed during a restriction.
Fire Ban (Total Fire Ban): A fire ban prohibits all fires.
Fire & Fireworks Permits
FIRE PERMITS
A County Fire Permit is required year-round for any outdoor burning except recreational fires, burning barrel fires, and residential incinerator fires. Permits help regulate fires during specific weather conditions and ensure safe burning practices.
Permits can be obtained by contacting Protective Services or filling out a Fire Permit Request Form online. You will need to provide:
your contact information
closest fire department
land location of the fire
type of material you will be burning
Fire Permits are not valid until signed by an approved County Fire Guardian. Once you receive a valid permit you MUST contact the number on the permit to inform East Central 911 of where and when you will be burning.
NOTE: If a Fire Restriction or Fire Ban has been declared, all previously issued permits are suspended. It is the landowner's responsibility to ensure there is not a current Fire Ban on prior to burning. If the Fire Ban is lifted prior to the expiration date on your permit, your permit becomes valid again.
*During a partial or total fire ban, the Request a Fire Permit link will not work.

Please contact Protective Services at least 7 days before your display to allow sufficient processing and inspection time.
