On January 1, 2020 the Federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act came into effect in Alberta, resulting in a carbon levy charged on fuel and combustible waste. On April 1, 2024, the federal levy on greenhouse gas emissions increased from $65 to $80 per tonne. As a result, the Federal Fuel Charge on natural gas has increased from $3.3271/GJ to $4.10/GJ.
